The program called for 80,000 SF of offices and support areas in a fireproof building with security considerations of primary importance. The building functions break down into three basic areas leading from the entrance: consular to the left; U.S. Information Service to the right; and the embassy offices arranged around the fountain court at the rear. These individual components are unified by the sloping tile roof and the surrounding loggias which provide protection from sun and rain. Materials and components are indigenous. The intent was that the building be similar in style to and harmonious with the surrounding architecture.
