The Hay-Adams Rooftop Addition

Hay Adams Hotel Rooftop Addition

Washington, DC

The existing Hay-Adams Hotel is a luxury hotel located on Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C. The hotel, designed by Mihran Mesrobian, was built on the site in 1928 in the Italian Renaissance style. The 14,000 square foot project consists of a rooftop restaurant addition with mechanical and elevator machine room levels above. Due to its location and history, the Commission of Fine Arts, Historic Preservation Review Board and Secret Service had oversight during the design process.

The restaurant level includes five dining rooms with doors accessing a continuous terrace overlooking the park and White House grounds. There is also a 3000 square foot full-service kitchen. The floor is serviced by extending two existing elevators and creating one new express elevator.
