Korean War Memorial, Wall of Remembrance

Korean War Memorial, Wall of Remembrance
Washington, DC

To enhance the visitor experience, Hartman-Cox Architects restored the original Cooper-Leaky Architects’ 1992 design by designing the new Wall of Remembrance to the Korean War Memorial. This 100 granite panel structure encircles the Pool of Remembrance and memorializes over 36,000 Americans and more than 7,200 Koreans who served as advisers and interpreters in what was called the Korean Augmentation to the U.S. Army (KATUSA). The names are organized by rank and respective branch of service, demonstrating how the War’s burden fell unevenly across the military, with privates and privates first class taking up the first 44 of the 84 Army panels.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is located in DC’s West Potomac Park, southeast of the Lincoln Memorial and just south of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall.
