Brookland Middle School (2014)

Department of General Services
Washington, DC
Design Architect: Hartman-Cox Architects
School Architect: Grimm+Parker Architects

The new Brookland Middle School, designed for 550 students, will be home to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students primarily drawn from the Ward 5 elementary schools. The proposed building will be three floors and contain approximately 110,000 GSF.

The school was envisioned by DCPS as a stand-alone neighborhood middle school improved by its connection with Turkey Thicket Park and the ability to share amenities with the park users and the community as a whole. While still concentrating on the traditional core curricula, the school will also feature an enhanced performing and fine arts component as well as an enriched foreign language overlay. These two disciplines are treated as special academies in the school organization.
